I'll never forgive YT for dropping annotations. Not only did it make it impossible to update viewers of a popular video with new / changed info and updates but it killed off the entire "choose your own adventure" video genre with no good alternative. Bring. It. Back.

I mean Markiplier was able to pull off the "Choose your own adventure" type fine without em. Also, there was a good reason. It was totally abused for many wrong reasons you can find with a quick online search and Instead of annotations, JPvid wants creators to embrace end screens and cards. Not only do they look a lot more professional, but by default they work on mobile devices. Cards can be used to point viewers to a website, show image overlays, titles, or even to embed a poll for viewers to respond to.

I am honestly amazed by the fact of how much JPvid has come to be, despite being 13 years young. Some of the stats on videos are insane, the history behind this platform is interesting and the hidden tricks were pretty cool. I really like these educational videos because without a channel like yours, most of us regular viewers have no clue that some of this hidden stuff existed. I would like you to do one on all the other platforms out there if you are able to. Not too long to Christmas also. 🎅🎄

CORRECTION: Rick rolling is older than a mere 15 years old. It's closer to 20 years at least, back in the AOL Instant Messenger days and originally, it involved disguising a link address to one that would launch multiple windows of the song, which kept multiplying and couldn't even be controlled with task manager unless you caught it early. Most of the time, you had to restart your computer to get rid of it.

Amazing video, you earned a sub! Even though I don't consider myself a beginner anymore, I still remember getting started. It was a tough journey. Of course, things are a lot easier now and I'm super grateful that I didn't give up and stayed patient all the way through. 8:10 Pro tip: You can just go to the part you want to timestamp, click on the usually forgotten "Share" button underneath the video, and click "Start at". It will automatically create a link with the correct timestamp at your current point in the video, or you can choose a different timestamp. Or, you could always use the feature intended for this, the Clip feature, and just share a clip of the video that shows what you want to show friends. This works a lot better because you can specify an end point.

Hey Arun, regarding Numberphile's 301 vid at 5:07, the host, Brady Haran, actually explained what was going on with this on his and CGP Grey's podcast "Hello Internet". It's not so much a mystery but rather JPvid playfully going along with the theme. He was manually contacted by JPvid asking permission if they could stop the counter at 301 to add to the experience of the video while he will have access to the real view count 🙂

For 8:21, all you actually have to do it is (if you think you won't be able to remember the method mentioned), on a laptop, go to the share button and press it, then tick the checkbox for the timestamp you want the shared video to start at and then share the video (all these steps for sharing link can be done on the browser version of JPvid on a laptop).

Dude i remember the speech bubble thing, it can be many different colours and you could put in links or just captions. At the time some people thought it was annoying but now it's just a better captions box. And the thing is, the boxes actually did work on iPads and such at one point i think cuz i remember them popping up on my old iPad mini screen.

Not sure if anybody else remembers this. I remember that you use to be able to leave comments on people’s videos as annotations, on the actual video itself, on the video window, if the user of the specific channel would enable the feature to allow you to do that. I think JPvid removed that feature because most people would abuse it 😂

Actually, I still can do it, and it is because I have no Google services(huawei phone) and because I use Opera. The thing is that Opera has a bar that shows me what video I was watching and the play video buttons. It works nice

If the video got plenty of views but few likes it usually means that is rather controversial or not liked yet viral... Dislikes were killed during the pandemic, people happily disliked factually correct videos about lockdowns and mask requirements just because people were frustrated about what they learned in the video, in the same manner, gun control videos were notoriously disliked discouraging others to make videos about inconvenient facts like if people countering misinformation were anti-democracy or something. I would personally disable both the like and dislike buttons as they allow creating a profile about you which can be stolen if Google servers are hacked and used for targeted ads during the election as was already done by Cambridge Analytica. If you cannot provide constructive criticism about why you don't like watched video, your opinion in form of a like or dislike did not matter anyway... Of course, companies wants all the sweet metadata customers are happily providing them for free despite being well known that metadata are being bought by the governments to avoid law restrictions on citizen spying and were used to decide against which person send a drone airstrike. Trust me, you can live without a like/dislike button, just imagine the time saved on every youtube video in which JPvidrs beg you to give them a like, as if begging for a free good rating in a TV show or movie using an actor with a sad puppy face would not be considered completely out of touch with the audience, not to mention that since JPvidrs learned that more comments mean a better chance of video being promoted in JPvid video suggestions page, nowadays all JPvidr are seriously interested about your opinion, because of course they are...

@Ionor Rea Words. And, I agree with the disabling of both the like and dislike buttons. With just the dislike button disabled, JPvidrs may think they got a high like/dislike ratio, meanwhile the dislikes are skyrocketing and none of their videos get on the front page. While disabling the dislike button in 2020 because people are stupid and believe in nonsense, neither should have existed in the first place. They serve no real purpose but to put videos on the front page. Do those people that liked get special recognition? No, because then the videos would be about a day long. Likes and dislikes combine together and make the JPvid society fall into shambles. I've also noticed that people start begging for likes now. What if people don't like the video by the end? Are you gonna cry because you got 149,999 likes instead of the original 150,000? If you don't have a reason that actually exists for disliking a video, that one dislike really didn't make a difference anyway. I won't be nuked, killed, or have my IP leaked because I didn't like a crappy video with blasting audio and a seven year old voice that comes with it.

Instead of using the swipe up and swipe down gestures on your phone for full and half screen, its easier to just rotate your phone unless you have auto-rotate turned off.

Speaking of the lofi hip hop stream, this isn't the first time this happened to them. The reason the stream was 2 years long and not longer was because this happened multiple times. One of those times happened before the 12 hour limit was set, so they had a video of the full stream, thousands of hours long, uploaded to youtube.

3:05 That only works on an Apple computer/laptop. On windows in doesn't but in chrome (Don't know about ms edge) just press the music note with lines on the upper right corner (shows when you're playing any video) and after doing so, it should open a small pop up or a window and you will see some controls on the middle left part such as seek back, seek forward and pause. and look at the icon on the right of those controls and click that and boom picture in picture.
