When young adventurer Laios and his company are attacked and soundly thrashed by a dragon deep in a dungeon, the party loses all its money and provisions...and a member!
They're eager to go back and save her, but there is just one problem: If they set out with no food or coin to speak of, they're sure to starve on the way!
But Laios comes up with a brilliant idea: "Let's eat the monsters!"
Slimes, basilisks, and even dragons...
none are safe from the appetites of these dungeon-crawling gourmands!

Same, I read this in 2022, I told my classmate it'll get animated within 2022-2023 cuz it's hype af.. but it's 2024 .. lost the bet for when but I knew it was going to be animated very soon. The thing is the manga is lacking the colors for some scenes which the anime would really help specially for the creature and foods need that.

@Kateikyoshi The series does start as a cooking gimmick story, but quickly evolves into a much deeper plot with a lot of fantastic world building and character moments. The cooking stays as a central theme throughout the whole show, but it's basically like a group of people playing a D&D campaign as an anime. Easily one of the best running (almost done now) manga out there at the moment

こんなに丁寧に作ることが許された漫画、久しぶりに見た。作者の物語が終わってしまうのが寂しくて、進むたびに憂鬱な気持ちになるくらい。アニメも出来るだけ丁寧に作って欲しいな。この作品は、見逃しても全く問題ないようなキャラクターの一つ一つの細かな所作に、九井さんの想いが籠もってる。そんなところを切り取ってもらえたら、いつまでも愛される名作になれるよねきっと。

@Jordan Warner You're right, very unlikely for it to flop, dunmeshi is good and trigger is competent, btw trigger will use their usual style, idk how I feel about that, I thought some stuff looks very rough around the edges, specially the dragon, which is like, one of the focal points for the story, anyway, might just be unfinished product, the anime is still 7 months away.

I started out with this series early on thinking it was just another fantasy food manga, which I like. I’m currently up to chapter 74. The plot ends up being multi-layered after the first 20 or 30 chapters, though, while still keeping the food theme as part of it. The party has multiple goals so it is slow, but well-paced. It doesn’t feel like things are dragging out pointlessly. In addition, the art is amazing and varied; I admire the mangaka’s skill conveying characterization. While the protagonist is a happy-go-lucky simple guy, he doesn’t get annoying because all the different characters balance well without feeling overwhelming or repetitive. A must-read and a well deserved adaptation by one of the prestigious anime studio in the business, Studio Trigger

Yep, and I hope anyone interested takes the time to check out her Daydream Hour art books if they like this anime or what they read of the manga. She's so fucking talented, and puts a lot of thought into character design. Her race studies are a treat as well. @ZenTux BG And I'd argue a way more satisfying story, CCAW kinda immediately falls into the isekai trap of massively lowering the stakes by making the characters so powerful almost right away. I tend to enjoy series where things are more of a struggle since it feels more rewarding when something works out. Still an interesting series, though.

@Gamer Bear I seriously hate the whole "I'm op at the start" trope that they do, just feels pointless to watch since there can be no such thing as a challenge or real climax, and it's real hard to pull off good character development at least from the main character. But, people like wish-fulfilling, self-insert & power-trip fantasies I guess 🤷

Not familiar with the manga, but it sound like Trigger has nailed the original art style, which is great. This sort of wacky comedy is right in their wheelhouse, plus we get a Mitsuda OST, to boot. Pretty optimistic about this one.
