The true reason is that the Wii's disc drive had a ridiculous amount of different revisions, making factoring in load times for any Wii/GameCube games in speedrunning is pretty silly (and also making the no usb loader/emulator rule pretty silly, because that's also usually forbidden only because of the different load times).

It’s a shame when runners quit and delete everything. They probably wonder what the point of it all was, but that’s the essence of the human condition; strive so hard for so long for a singular fleeting moment of joy and glory that will immediately after fade away. These guys, and their accomplishments, represent the best of us.

I like the timeline but it can be a bit blurry/pixelated at times. You could try doing it with vector art: it'll really help the quality of the visuals. Also, you could adjust the circle size when looking at close, small segments like 36:08: again, because it'll increase the quality and make it easier to visualise the different time saves

I don't understand deleting your runs. Obviously, FadeVanity is within his rights to do whatever the heck he wants to with his content. However, even if you completely walk away from gaming all together, what purpose does it serve to just throw recordings of such great skill into the dumpster? On a different note, that pan out to see the full timeline was cool ^_^
DrJones20 29 日 前
The guy went nuts. I saw a creator in LittleBigPlanet delete all his levels after he snapped.
Roshibomb ヶ月 前
@sonicandamyfan4ever No, actually, they have a point. If records are deleted, they can no longer be analyzed, which includes cheating analysis. This unfortunately makes all records with no video *completely* unverifiable in the present. Obviously, it doesn't necessarily prove that they *were* cheating, as there are many other reasons to delete runs. But it is certainly one easy way to circumvent it; to keep your legacy forever, all you have to do is delete the evidence and nobody can ever prove you wrong. This is just yet another example of why having video of speedruns instead of just a time is so important. So, so many cheaters were caught years and years into the future. If we lose that resource - if they delete their runs - then we can never know for sure. In fact, we will probably never even suspect anything. Video proof doesn't necessarily validate speedruns on its own, because videos *can* be edited and faked, but a total lack of it basically makes the entire record hinge on "dude trust me" logic.
@far2ez I'm sorry but your reply makes zero sense
far2ez ヶ月 前
Anyone who deletes their runs is a cheater imo. Prove me wrong -- that's right you can't, because they deleted their runs.
Roshibomb ヶ月 前
@russian bot It's hard for me to take a stance here. On one hand, I agree that mental health should be prioritized in situations like this. On the other, it's really really difficult for me to justify deleting runs entirely. Even if they were used as a form of escapism, or some other negative reason, the reality is that by speedrunning you are actively committing to making yourself a part of history. Thus, by deleting your runs, you forever damage those leaderboards and make the records incomplete. To me, it's akin to a member of the Olympics deciding that all of their world records should be deleted because of their mental state at the time; while unfortunate, it is a consequence of the form chosen that it is impossible to do so without ruining a large portion of the identity of the activity itself. Regardless of any of this, I fully agree that facecam was probably too much. If it were possible, I would even say removing his voice from the videos would be the best course of action. I just believe that keeping the runs up *in some form* is vital to the medium. The runs themselves are the important part, not the reaction (though it is again unfortunate that this would be lost). Not even just from a historians perspective, but from someone who's trying to learn the routes as well, or how a certain runner played, so they can improve themselves. All of this being said, I don't know. I don't know how to handle problems like this; I've never been in a situation where I've felt so strongly about things I have put online, so I can't personally speak for the mental toil it may take on someone to view videos taken during traumatic periods of their lives. I hope you can understand that I'm not trying to be offensive, demeaning, insulting, or to say that I know any of this for certain, just that I'm just giving my own limited view on the situation.

Love watching your vids bro. Great info and so well put together. There's something about your tones that make it so interesting. Keep up the good work and good luck.

Another phenomenal documentary, it's always so captivating no matter what game it is to see the dedication and perseverance these runners have to achieve things that were once thought to be impossible and Summoning Salt's way of telling the story just makes it all that much more impactful and I feel like his only equal in this field on yt is Nick Robinson, it's always exciting to see any video they make. Also love the end with a little info on each runner and how many times they were WR holder, perfect way to bookend the video.

I was going to be saying the exact same thing, but I'll simply voice my FULL support of that here, instead. All of my yes!

Yes. Definitely. Absolutely. The final look at the runners' current whereabouts is a great addition which i truly hope we get to see in other videos, not just here or just speedrunning but histories of sports like these in general.

Another great video. It feels funny how now the records you cover happened within the time I was already subscribed to you. Makes it feel less like "history before my time, in ye olden days" and more something actively happening and continuing to evolve. Loved the progression graph to set things into context and the "where are they now" recap of the runners at the end!

Hi! Thank again for the great video! The new idea of timeline in the recent videos was really nice and helpful. The simplicity of just dots and lines also suits your videos really well. Although I found it a bit confusing sometimes especially when a lot of records happens within short amount of time. If I may have a few suggestions: It might be more consistent style if you use pixelated dots instead of round dots. Also increase the transparency of the past records will highlight the one you want to talk about more.

Your videos are simultaneously perfect to just sit down and watch, entranced, and fantastic to fall asleep to. How do you do it???? I’m fascinated, but also lulled into relaxation with the way you talk!!!

The addition of the graph and the ending section of "Where are they now" just add SO MUCH to these already ridicioulusly good videos The quality of this content just feels unmatched. Can't wait for the next one, keep up the great work

@seasoned curlies It has been on recent videos. I do have a suggestion, tho, and that is include each players history, at least occasionally, or greyed back. It could be pretty cluttered tho, so a high-res image or pdf of it may be the only way to show it well. It would be really cool to see each player as they come into the scene, make progress, etc. while the main fight at the top of the leader is taking place down in the lowest level of the graphic.
