#1 thing that ruins kids sports: The Parents and always will be.
Jair Morales

@Gilbert Grape ☝️Perfect example of those type of parents. Some of us don’t have kids and some of us do but either way, we don’t need to be a parent to know what’s a good and bad parent.
NeonFroot
NeonFroot 3 日 前
@washburn11000 Yea but those are usually because of the environmental. Also, society enforces innocence as the main policy of childrearing which is bad. Train your kids to handle their vices rather than criminalizing worldly instincts as automatically bad. In the US, the incarceration rate is high because of the ridiculous liability laws set here. Kids grow up smothered and socially deprived so are easily enticed by gangs, drugs, etc. Innocence breeds creeps and junkies.

@FlipMode Nah. Not all juvenile delinquency was enabled or by clueless parents. People need to stop treating kids as "lambs to the slaughter" for everything after age twelve.

@Akbar Shabazz Jenkins I think the should stop making youth sports be dependent on good grades for participation. Not all kids are academically gifted. And forcing them to be so is why schooling is miserable and why our current generation of adults suck. We need to go back to trades.

@Banana001 This is why I say childhood is overrated in the west because it's always about Liability. Kid are denied the right to live for themselves. They're told to wait upon their parents ad teachers to approve them for everything while being taught nothing. The current rate of maturation we have is blasphemous. Adulthood is supposed to begin at puberty but we extended for academics. Most of our academics are useless liberal arts that don't serve any real world purpose.

I'm not mad at the kids, but increasing the talent pool by recruiting from a larger area is basically the most effective form of cheating. I played soccer in elementary school for warwick pa, and after sucking for a few years we got pretty good and actually had an undefeated season. We played the travelling team next year in a scrimmage and lost easily.

My guess is that the kids knew where each other lived and could figure out that there was a problem with eligibility for many. Kids know. Of course, the cheating adults were shameless and exploited the kids for their own reasons. And I am positive this wasn't the only year this went on for that team. Race has nothing to do with right or wrong unless that is the lens through which you view this world. That's all on the person.

I remember this like yesterday. I was a little league coach at the time in Chicago and everybody knew this wasn’t going to end well. But when a lot of us said something we were called haters or racist. We just knew the boundary rules.

Having played in one of the tournaments in NY I can tell you that as we kept winning, the players on the opposing teams suddenly started looking older and bigger. LOTS of cheating goes on by ADULTS who want to win at any cost. They ruin the game for kids who just want to play because it's fun. We came to find out later that one of the teams we routed 13-2 was actually Babe Ruth League team of 15 year olds. We were 12 year olds. We got really disgusted with the system and we went to our coach to pull us out of the tournament because the adults surrounding it were AWFUL PEOPLE and since were inner city kids, the suburban kids and parents treated us horribly because we were winning so much and I guess one or two of us were too brash and flashy for them. BUT to pull the race card when you know you did something wrong is just as disgusting to me. It's a shame but cheating happens a LOT in Little League.
Don Foreman
Don Foreman 22 日 前
At 12 years old, I don't think you and your teammates were pulling out of a tournament because of adults. A 12 year old just wants to play ball and typically don't worry about the bigger picture.

The situation is really unfortunate. The kids are the ones that suffered from this bullshit. The people responsible should for sure have been punished. The kids and the title... hell no. They all likely feel like no matter what they do the world will always be against them after all this trash. Also, I've been around little league my whole childhood, my father coached and half my family umpired. Everyone pulls players in and people lie about their home district more so to play with their friends not to cheat.

"Everyone pulls in players and people lie, but it's not because of cheating, it's because they just wanna play with their friends!" Cheating is cheating, doesn't matter if they just wanted to play with friends or not. Rules were broken. Teams were beaten (by DOZENS OF RUNS) because of a team that cheated. I'm not saying the kids are the ones who made the choice, but through the actions of the team, they cheated other teams out of a fair shot at a title. And why should the kids not have their title stripped? "Hey, your team cheated and we know you cheated, but you can keep calling yourselves champions and keep the trophies..." Seriously, you're trying to justify cheating... Imagine being that much of a dishonest scumbag that you think cheating in Little League is okay because "everyone does it."
sandozlabs

they got to play on what amounted to an all star team. You think the kids weren't old enough to know this advantage they had over other teams? When they travelled to practices and games when other teams walked? They went in there and they didn't even play nice, trouncing teams with double digit runs, even though they KNEW their team wasn't fair. They wouldn't have won anything without this advantage, and it makes you wonder if people would have such pity if not for the color of their skin

My family had to move often when I was young so , I played in a different league every year. Every single league had one particular team that was loaded with "ringers". At the beginning of the season coaches picked thier teams in what was supposedly a fair draft yet , one team always seemed to have nothing but very good players somehow. Every other team always seemed to have a chubby kid and a very short kid. Usual stereotypes on a playground but , not the ringers...I know this is a fact because I was asked twice to switch teams. Fortunately I had made friends on my teams and I knew I wouldn't be happy to see one of our good players jump ship. As it was if you drafted your players fairly your team would wind up with two or three good players and the rest would be of varying skill levels. But there always seemed to be that ONE team Every year.

Assuming it is accurate, this documentary says a great deal about the quality of the adults behind the team. It is extremely unlikely the kids didn't know what was going on, which brings into question the adults involved as role models for the kids. Apparently some groups of people in this country have unacceptable ethical and moral values. It has always been that way and will never change.

Something to note.. it's pretty common to have players jump around schools and travel leagues. It's also not uncommon for parents to falsify residence for their kids to get them into a better school district or on a certain sports team.. I have a family member whose job it was to go through records and find the kids that don't actually live in the district. None of the kids were at the school for sports though. And none kicked out haha. But there are a number of coaches who have been caught in scandals. The one I remember most recently was a girls' basketball coach who brought 3 girls in from out of district and put all of their addresses as the same.

Having coached Little League teams I can say first hand that cheating does go on by some coaches who want to win at any cost. I can also say first hand that some parents should not be allowed anywhere near a Little League game. By far the biggest problem Little League coaches have to deal with is abuse from parents. Sad.

I used to live in Tom's River NJ and let me tell you something, boy. The parents spent thousands of dollars to get the best training for their kids for the little league baseball. They would fight to the death if you said your kid was better than theirs. Disgusting display of poor parenting. More like pimping them out for their own gain. There was better talent passed up. It was politics all the way. Disgusted me. We all want the best for our kids, but if you just let the kid be a kid, you'd have loved them, win or lose.

There was a team like this in 2009 from my hometown. They had players from out of their district play for their Rec league(some were more than an hour away from the league), so they could create a stacked team. They got beat in the state tourney by the Warner Robins team that came in 3rd in the LLWS. I can guarantee that there are plenty of teams that do this currently. Honestly wouldn’t mind better competition in the LLWS, makes it more enjoyable to watch imo

It's sad that they tried to scream racism when they got caught. Every district has a couple players that are considered unstoppable, that doesn't mean cheat literally the world because you think you can get away with it. The kids also knew what was going on, they know that certain players didn't belong on the team so they are cheaters as well and should feel shame for not speaking out. Look at all the kids that got cheated out of a little league baseball experience because of this. Also look at the people that donated and cheered for a team that should have never been there in the first place.

What bothers me the most about issues like this, and as a Canadian, I've seen it happen in minor hockey, is that the kids who legitimately reside within the boundaries get left out because of the ringers who are brought in. As a parent, that would really piss me off if it was my kid. The parents who knew their kid wasn't eligible to play for the JR team should be ashamed of themselves.

I played Little League in Nashville back in the early '70s. There are little league districts all over Nashville and everybody stayed in their zone. One year, two guys showed up from about 30 miles away and nobody knew who they were. They clearly did not live or go to school in the area of our league. We knew something was wrong, people complained but nothing was done. Fortunately it was just two kids and not 12 or 15. The two were absolute standouts but was not enough to make the team overwhelming. Everybody clearly know cheating was going on. The league was the Senior League Little League formed that was 14 and 15-year-olds. These two guys drove to the games each time. Obviously you have to be 16 years old to get a driver's license. These two dudes said they were 14. One of the guys had a full beard. Sad the coach and other officials looked the other way.

As a parent whose sons have played in Little League we've seen teams cheat and we've gone to tournaments where we've caught Canada cheating or showing wrong birth certificates so it does go on but as a head coach applying for to make the boundaries wider and he never got an answer approval it doesn't mean that it's okay to do it because you didn't hear nothing so sad for the kids but the parents know the coach cheated or bent the rules it is what it is everyone knows when someone's cheating or something's going on and your kids involved you're involved and you know it

No one spends the time and resources investigating teams that don't win anything because there is no reason to. If you have a team capable of winning, you better make sure you dotted all your i's because winning teams get double-checked. period. To play a victim card in response to being caught is either misguided, disingenuous, or plain deceitful.

While it is against the rules the organizers made, I wouldn't qualify this as cheating. My point is when these teams go against all the Asian and Latino teams strong baseball countries, America is expected to compete, again the Bad News Bears was a fictional movie. I even agree that beating teams by 45 is ridiculous , they need to implement different levels and classes, not zones of a greater city. Then if a class c team beats another class c team by 45 points, its not going to be hard to get the entire city and league to bring cheating charges...make sense?

Exactly I cant even be mad at this team tbh. Look at all the cheating that goes on in little league and there are much worse cheating going on than just fielding players outside ur district. Especially the international teams 🤷🏽‍♂️

I know how this works. I was a coach in our local Little League. The boundary issue is in place for a reason. It prevents teams from drawing All Star players from outside their boundaries. That’s why it’s so difficult to field a team that can go deep into sectionals and nationals. This was pure fraud. The players knew. A player and parents who live outside the boundaries knew what was happening. None of these players or parents would have ever played with or against each other, except during non-little league travel fall/winter ball. This was in essence a dream team that pulled players from every corner of Chicago land, of which all but 5 players were from within the boundaries. The “adults” that defended this action also knew what was happening. Believe me, as a parent of a player, you know who all the studs are in your county when you are involved in off season travel ball.
Robert Law
Robert Law ヶ月 前
The point is well made, but if the district 4 official says to the parent: "look, good news, your kid can play with us because we are getting new district boundaries approved this year," do you as a parent have the duty to then question that statement? Can you take the word of the coach? Maybe you just want to be sure, so you call up the president of the distict 4, and he says the same thing. Do you have to call the HQ of Illinois little league and ask them? Imagine what kind of response your would get from the typical bureaucrat, red tape loving, don't make me do any extra work, fill out the form in triplicate before I even talk to you staff that haunts the upper echelon of the big leech organizations! Do you have a duty to ask the other district -- the one you live in -- to confirm it? Maybe that would mess up the deal if they knew, now, that actually there really is this one or two particularly strong player who could play there if they don't agree. So what is the wrongdoing of the parent here? If they took the word of the district 4 executive, then I can't really fault them. On the other hand, if they were conspiring with the coach and knew the approval hadn't happened, then I agree with you.
Gustavus Adolphus
@Jebron Lames because that's not how little league works. It's not travel ball, but kids who live and play in the same area coming together to go far.

Feel like their coaches wilding out made it so that they’d inevitably get caught. If you’re that good then don’t run up the score. There’s no reason a team should be winning by 20+ points in 4 innings. Coaches could avoid it by playing certain players on their way to the little league World Series and not bringing as much attention to them.

I mean, yeah, I 100% agree that the adults in-charge are to blame, but you can't tell me the kids didn't know they were a super-team built with out of boundary kids. I grew up playing sports with boundary restrictions. I wasn't naïve to what that meant. I don't really feel bad for the kids either.

As usual it's the grownups that usually ruin things for the kids, they get so caught up with winning that they lose focus on what is really important, and that's getting kids involved in a team sport that will build character and give them memories for the rest of their life Win or lose

I remember this series. I remember being saddened that it turned out little league got a black eye because the coaches cheated. Everyone keeps harping on the fact that the kids had their legitimate victory taken away. If they were playing in their districts, only five would have been on the team, the rest broken up in ones and twos throughout the league. No one team would likely have powered thru the season, but each of the teams would have had a standout player or to. The way it's supposed to work.
