The Ritom power plant in Ticino, which was built in 1920 and is located only a few kilometers from the Gotthard Tunnel, is in need of renewal. Since 2018, a number of contractors from the Marti Group have been working on this overall complex renovation on behalf of Ritom SA.

Marti, I appreciate the way your team filmed this. You gave due credit to your workers and emphasized the physical labor and creativity they had to employ to make this possible, gave extremely clear visual and auditory explanations of each step and each setback, acknowledged some cliches in the editing process with a good sense of humor, and still managed to market your brand very well. This was a titanic task and your drilling team definitely deserve accolades for what they accomplished. Thanks for taking us all along for the ride. Best use of 30 minutes that I’ve spent in a while.

@Walter Rutherford around 250,000,000 CHF = 269,965,500 USD for the design, fabrication, installation and commissioning. Certainly a lot more if you want to include the engineering cost of this giant drill system :P

The only thing missing, (and one of the biggest questions I had while watching that), is the cost. Engineering the tunnel must’ve literally cost a fortune!

@Han Solo of course, it runs the risk of educating the populous. And since there are still people, especially in marketing, that believe 'because I found school hard and boring it means all types of learning are boring, therefore since I dont see any entertainment value in it no one could possibly enjoy and be entertained by a seemingly boring learning opportunity.... because I took marketing at the community college and this piece of paper I acquired using homework help sites says I know what people want...by measuring it against what I want...and anyone that doesnt share that opinion is wrong' I can see it being an uphill battle to even put the idea in their heads. That being said, I would totally watch a technical/corporate video awards show. Could you imagine the on-boarding/orientation/"welcome to the company" category?! Sure there would be a ton of razzy worthy entries, but some companies have awesome media departments/contractors!

@Everett L Williams II agreed in my country women tend to score higher on average, in University and HS exams compared to men. Its a pitty more women didnt go into fields like civil mechanical electrical engineering. Theyve proven theyve got the brains for it
Everett L Williams II
@Ron Speaking of idiots, there are women engineers on tunneling projects around the world and a great deal of the work is brain work, not requiring brute strength. Think of all the design work that had to go into this before the TBM could tunnel a single inch. A simple error in design could end up with the TBM stuck in that crushed rock and having to be cut up and replaced in situ under the most hazardous conditions. There are many women engineers capable of such work and I am sure that some were involved in some aspects of this project. And I know quite a few women who would enjoy watching this video if their knuckle-dragger husbands would get out of the way and quit yelling for beer and food, as if they couldn't pause the video and get it for themselves.

I never gave much thought as to how giant underground tunnels were created... The engineering, machinery and creativity humans use to achieve their goals is incredible! When I had tooth extractions and replacements done years ago, I was impressed then at the small scale of tools and components used so delicately.
