In today's video we have a recap to how we got here with my Audi R8 and start the engine rebuild, this will be more of an in depth process to will span over a few videos. Instagram: Saving_salvage
You never cease to amaze me. If I was faced with all the disappointment you've had thrown at you on this project alone, I'd have a mental breakdown, but you just seem to take it in your stride and carry on. Such a positive outlook does you proud, not to mention your incredible knowledge, skill and patience. This is the best car restoration channel on JPvid, by a distance. Absolutely fascinating.
Juggling a full time job, family life and every other day stuff and you still manage to produce fantastic to watch content, a proper grafter Dean! Mega impressed! This channel should have a lot more subscribers, you work ethic and time spent explaining stuff is second to none and you should be really proud of yourself
Great progress. A little tip for you put a dot of paint on each bolt after its torqued so when you come back later you know what had been done 👍 looking forward to the next installment
The detail is perfect. When I've watched others doing similar, I'd always thought they were cutting corners, and yours shows how it should be done. I'd imagine most of this would apply regardless of the engine type so the extra info is great.
Wonderful to enjoy watching an engine rebuild being done meticulously. Dean, you certainly know what you are doing...years of knowledge put to the test. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to the next part. Cheers, Bob
What a terrific tutorial / education you've provided today Dean. Now looking forward even more to the subsequent parts of this engine rebuild. Brilliant channel. Thanks 👍
Absolutely amazes me to see an engine like that in complete pieces only for someone to put it back together & it actually works !! I get a sweat on changing light bulb !!! Can't wait to hear that awesome v8 burst back into life, great content Dean.
That's some complex engine but with your attention to detail we know it will go back right. Great to see this work in detail - look forward to the next one.
Great to see the inner workings of this beast. It’s going to be epic when you get it to fire up. That’s going to feel like such a major achievement (because it is). Cheers for sharing such a detailed rebuild. Atb, Andy
Seriously impressive you can keep track of all the parts of two engines, plus new parts and know what's going where! I lose nuts and bolts doing a service 🤣. Fingers crossed all works out well with the car
Good work Dean. It’s amazing the last engine I rebuilt was a Mercedes M114 (2.5 i6) from the late 60’s and the bottom end rebuild has very little difference in process/design in how they go together, guess it’s proof that the IC engines design and very concept was nailed years ago. I know once you get to the heads and ancillaries there is huge advancement. 👍🏻
Good work dude. Engine builds are good fun but so time consuming making sure you don’t make a silly mistake. I had it with a Subaru rebuild where a tiny bit of swarf was stuck inside a head and that destroyed the heads cam seat and cam
Not an Audi fan but seeing you tackle something as elaborate and complicated as this you can't help but still take an interest bravo👏bring on the next instalment
Top work, I did a 2.0L, 16V Vauxhall C20XE for my Kit Car four years ago and the engine strip down and rebuild was the most enjoyable part. You have another four pistons, too.. Really enjoy the streams and your attention to detail is amazing and you juggle lots of balls in the air at the same time.
Hey Dean, great videos, really enjoying them. I'm watching this series via the R8 playlist though and the in depth engine rebuild videos Pt1 - Pt4 are shown in the wrong order Pt2 first, then Pt4 then Pt1, with Pt3 missing entirely. 👍
Little tip for you, when clamping the rings on the piston, leave some skirt exposed to help line up the piston/liner when installing. Great work for personal build.
Great Video Dean whoever trained you done a great job frightening looking at that work bench full of bits. This is coming from a ex HGV Mechanic, another level mate
Looking good bro, all those parts off the old engine I would clean all up and put them on eBay to make some lost money back, great job so far can't wait to hear that engine start.
I replaced my DPF pressure sensor today only breaking 1 plastic clip in the process & dropping just a single screw that was never to be found again, if only I'd seen your video first and how easy you make it look I might have rebuilt my entire engine and transmission whilst I had my adjustable spanner and bent nose pliers handy!!
For some wan like me who is totally a nitwit on engine it is still a very nice video to watch ! Now i understand a little more why engine can be very expensive because they are very time consuming ! And for also very complicated to (re)build. To see how precisely you are working and all off the patient you put in to this job, i can understand why you become a mechanic, because in the end this engine will run again !
@Jer H At least in the UK Dean had options for spare engines. Here in Oz if your Audi R8 engine chucks a wobbly then you're looking at a massive repair bill.
Watch most of your videos but was wondering (slightly off-topic) if you could maybe do a video on how you got started, what you started with (location, tools etc.) and how much money you might have invested? Keep up the great work and much love from Belfast.
I’ve got an identical 07 black manual 20k miles since I got it new .I’ve put off watching you videos as mine was in for a crank seal and clutch ….lack of use ! One other thing to look out for , is the transfer shaft seal and bearing . Luckily it was found when they were in there , or it would have been grim ! You’re doing great pal 👍Can’t wait to see her up and running .
Very interesting dean, filled in alot of blanks for me. I'm a maintenance engineer by trade I wanted to go into mechanics but I was told no money in the trade compared
Cracking video, love the detail makes me want to run out to the garage and strip my cars engine 😂 But maybe not... Channel is going from strength to strength 💪👍
