The Dallas Cowboys announced they will be releasing Ezekiel Elliott. Zeke burst onto the NFL scene as a rookie in 2016 and has averaged fewer and fewer rushing yards a game every season since. We should have traded EE way back when he forced us to give him a new contract. I think paying these guys 90-200 million dollar contracts is the problem. Today players get paid way too much. I think a longer term guaranteed deal but lower money is a better way to go. All contracts today are handing huge money to keep a guy seen as valuable. I bet I could take any team today. In 3 years all players contracted long term and 50m cap every year. That team being just as good as any other just my team would never hand any contracts to a player who does not deserve it. The other players willing to earn these deals. only players in the starting spots and producing. The world has thousands of guys ready to go and teams are paying guys because they are afraid. EE lost my respect when he pulled holdout. Then gets paid... meanwhile Pollard IMO was a better fit cheaper and I would have got a few draft picks with a bottom team and EE would have been gone.

Washington fan, here! Watched Zeke, since his Ohio State days. When he first got into the NFL, he was unstoppable. I was scared, shitless to see him play against my team. Watching him dominate against other teams was a thing to watch. It’s crazy how he’s declined each year. I knew it was coming. He’s just not the same. Most likely, will never be.

Smoking and drinking has got nothing to do with it, and you don't need half a brain to figure that out. Just look at the way Zeke played the RB position in general. He was a great back & weapon for the cowboys offense for sure, but not surprised they let him go. It's a horrible time to be a RB in the NFL. Besides Barkley and 1-3 other RBs none of em have a franchise tag or are getting what's considered a high paying guaranteed contract. I think that everything you said about cowboys, keeping Zeke is true, his short yardage, goal, line, touchdown, ability, team, and locker room, leader ship, and his passing/blitz pick up ability. I'm just really trying to understand how RB's used to be able to last a bit longer and run for more yards. Then all of a sudden as the game seemingly becomes less physical, now they last less time. There has to be something to be said for that. Now they don't practice the same, they don't hit the same, yet the backs last a lot less time typically. I kinda assume it's because of all the shots they are taking to the lower body honestly. Their knees are getting absolutely cooked compared to before when they would just get hit sticked up top.

I remember when the Boys drafted Zeke. I wasn’t upset in the least, but I really, really wanted Jalen Ramsey that year. But Zeke surpassed my expectations. Had a great first 3-4 years, mediocre afterwards. Numbers, both financial and on field, made this move a necessity.

Honestly I’m not a Zeke fan at all, but he was pretty consistent and pushed 1,000 yards every year. His numbers only dipped this year and that’s because he started shearing snaps with Tony. And even then he rushed close to 900.

Zeke was a fan favorite. When I went to the Training Camp in California the crowd went crazy for Zeke in practice! Every time he touched the ball the whole crowd was like ZEKE!!!! Lol. No disagreement with what Shannon said, Zeke was a high collision back who didn’t take great care of his body until later on in his career. Still one of my favorite players to play for the cowboys but man you have to appreciate the Emmitt Smiths of the world who lasted so long and played so well for a long period.

Zeke gave the Cowboys some incredible seasons. Running backs get so much abuse. He had become mostly a third down back and used as a blocker, which he did very well, but with the salary cap you can't afford to pay him the money.

Zeke had 1.3K yards in 2019.. which is definitely good and this is after he signed his huge contract. 2020 wasn’t the best year but Dak was out that whole year. No QB always stunts the offense . I think he fell off a bit but it wasn’t always his fault + injuries.

This should remind us to appreciate how great AP was, he was a top back for a long time. Even with no QB and a stacked box of 8, he still ate. Dude ran over 1,000 yards for washington 12 years deep in the league with 200 surgeries

3:08 completely agree with Skip here. I wasn't thrilled with drafting Zeke after the solid year Darren McFadden had before and you could have put just about anybody behind that o-line, but Zeke complemented Dak so well and that rookie year was amazing....sad that he's gone but it was the right time.
