Great upload. INcluding all the NBC coverage of pre-game, halftime and postgame is awesome. I grew up watching the NBA on CBS and loved the Celtics and Lakers, but as a Bulls fan, I appreciated the NBA on NBC more than any of the coverage I've watched in my lifetime.

Man that NBC intro brings back so many good 90's memories. Just beautiful nostalgia all over the place. It's nothing like being a Chicagoan in the 90's when our MJ and our Bulls ruled the league. Plus this rivalry between the Bulls and Knicks is classic NBA basketball, sure do miss it😎

@James Mitchell a rivalry is when two who is of competition for each our wins from time to time the Knicks have never beaten the bulls with mj on the roaster in a playoff series they were no competition the pistons did several times the Knicks rival like I said was the Miami heat you winning first 2 games don’t mean nothing

What are you looking at?
@optimus2g Thats a commendable testament. The rivalry between these two teams was incredible to behold. A young aggressive Knicks team with tenacious defense and they were HUNGRY! The Bulls..a team of athletic thoroughbreds with their own defense which was swarming and the explosiveness of Jordan who had an unsatiable appetite for competition and victory. It was a battle of two teams of Titans and it was always a thrill. What I loved most though....was the crowd at MSG. They loved rooting against Jordan but always..ALWAYS respected him. The standing ovation they gave him at the end... honoring a worthy competitor....showed that under it all they had a real affinity and respect for him.

You need to watch all of the 6 games especially games 1 and 2 and see how the KNICKS got away with fouls on the bulls. David Kordesh 2 ヶ月 前
@Omar Rodriguez Think it would have actually been good for him to be in the 90s. He'd have no more excuses. He would have toughened up a lot, and getting beat by Jordan year in and year out would have taken out of the running for GOAT and just put him in everyone's top 10. A mentally and physically tough Lebron would have been something special. That big, that strong, that fast, AND tough? There'd probably be a lot more love for him if they hadn't been trying to compare him to Jordan. He would have been a big time rival for Carl Malone, actually. That'd be a crazy matchup.
John Ruggiero
Great series! Thanks for posting. I must say I think it was, not just a mistake, but perhaps stupid that the Knicks didn’t deal Ewing after the 95 season. They were doomed to be a middle of the road team, but in 97 NY added real, quality, young players. Yet, They were handicapped by having to wait for Ewing, who was physically shot by 95. Look at that final layup attempt against Indiana in the 95 ECSF.

Going back with these memories you get to watch what's been missing in today's NBA and and things that didn't stand out that you now see being a basketball fan instead of being a favorite basketball team or player fan. What points out the most to me is how the Bulls front office and organization undervalued Scottie Pippen as a major factor in one of the greatest dynasties in an era when you literally gave blood sweat and tears to beat the best of the best to be the best. This Eastern Conference Finals with the Bulls down 2-0 minus a underappriciated undervalued Scottie Pippen would have rewritten basketball history because without him and Chicago being down 2-0 there is no such thing as the Chicago Bulls three peating in 1993. I'm only speaking facts here.

Ah my Knicks! They had their chance to put Chicago away this game. By the time Michael Dropped 54 in game 4 it was over. If they could've contained the others (Paxson. Cartwright, Scott Williams, Armstrong, Grant), we would've won this series and played Phoenix. Which means Ewing or Barkley would've won a title in their prime

@BallinNQnz If, but no, because the greatest never had to go past 6. After the the loss of game 3 the Knicks got deflated and the Bulls were only gaining traction. The more the odds were against them, especially Jordan, the more determined they were to win. Just look at Jordan during the 4th quarter of just about any playoffs and finals game, especially if they were losing. 6 games, 6 tries, 6 rings, that's all that matters.
BallinNQnz

Phil used to whine so much about the Knicks it was so annoying & phil hit the NBA's panic button by comparing them to the recently disbanded " bad boys " oh no! The nba was like terrified that the bad boys would ruin all their hard work in getting it away from the 70s when there were bloody fist fights & massive cocaine use. It did almost g9 bankrupt & stern w/ magic & larry & then mj got it up to new heights then the dream team made the NBA a global phenomenon. So when phil cleverly was screaming " the knicks are the pistons " the nba panicked changed the rules in 94 b/c the Knicks made the finals & it was only low rated b/c people were tuning into oj news 24/7. The speed chase was split screened w,t the finals for godsakes.

When the Bulls were playing at this level of intensity and cohesion, firing on all cylinders like they did in the first half, they could break any team. ANY. Insane defensive pressure - all court and half court - clockwork execution on offense, each man contributing and fighting for position. Add MJ playing to perfection as the game required. He scored mostly from the line due to knicks' faults in 1st half, but kept his legendary cool and aggressiveness, polarizing defense on him while distributing and keeping every teammate productive. Total mastermind show by #23 From the jumpball the whole Bulls showed a determination and ferocity that made this knicks team, in my opinion the best and meanest knicks edition in last 50 years, look like boy scouts What a team this was.

Natalie ps
Natalie ps ヶ月 前
So they missed calls the bulls did vs the Knicks? Yea the foul calls in favor of the bulls was really blatant. Mj shot like 25 fts in one game. That's when my whole ny family started hating mj. Now there's so much respect but the foul calls for jordan were insane. He pushed off a lot. Magic even said it to his face on that famous dream team clip " If u get too close to Micheal it's a foul " ewing became a master of drawing contact & nailing the shot for a 3 pt play. At least ewing did trick his defender of drawing actual contact. It wasnt phantom calls. I'd also like to say that hue hollins call gimme a break that was a pay back call for all the times smith was hacked the previous year & that poor guy got run outta town by Knicks fans. They boo'd him constantly after that. No forgiveness from the garden crowd or fans. I think its more stemming that riley made a huge mistake of letting x man walk & the 25 year old mark jackson get traded for smith. We got an aging doc rivers & a Charles smith who just did not fit in w/ the knicks style. 92 the knicks took the bulls to 7. It was their first year under pat riley. I think riley should have kept that crew together. Also he should have kept gerald Wilkins as the starting sg he was a sound player. Sure he was not as good at all as his big bro dominique but not many men were or are. Top 75 of all time & should have made the dream team over pippen but pippen had a ring when they made the team up. Anyway gerald should have stayed starting b/c starks was such a streaky player. He was great coming in to add a spark. I know riley was in love w/ starks but he needed another sg when starks played badly or lost his cool. He got chucked from 2 playoff games in 93 for fighting miller & jordan. He did a beautiful job on both so much so mj mentioned starks in his hof speech almost like he was a nuisance. That's a big compliment in my book from the #goat. If u can annoy mj to not be air ur a great defender & at his height too. He was stuffing jordan shots.

@YRN x KJ even clarence weatherspoon used to destroy him. Dominique should have been on the dream team in his spot but it's all hype & press. He played on the 3rd largest market team w/ the goat# pippen knew his role & played it well to accommodate mj. U cant have 2 great players or theirs friction. 2 examples shaq& kobe should have won like 6 titles together but egos. Same w/ the bad boy pistons. They shipped a scoring machine in adrian dantley out after making the finals b/c Isiah hated him. Zeke was really a 2 guard masquerading as a pg b/c of his small height. U cant put a guy who is 6'0 in the 2 when hes playing on the average 6'4 guys. In 96 to 98 I'd say pippen wasnt even the 3rd best player on the team. Mj rodman kukoc were better. In 94 they forget to mention the team added kucok & Armstrong & grant became all stars with more scoring time w/o mj . When grant departed for the 95 season the bulls were under 500 & when mj returned they made the playoffs as a 5th seed. Scottie never took over a playoff game & never hit a clutch game winning shot either. In 6 finals he never won one mvp. That's kinda sad. Dumars won one. Magic jabar maybe even James worthy got one.
Natalie ps
Natalie ps ヶ月 前
@Samuel Vazquez are u crazy ? No offense but I'm a Knicks fan & I'm even blown out how viscious pippen is to Jordan in that book & in his gq interview. More like overrated. If pippen went to the kings or clippers he would be some forgotten 90s player. I can name 10 sfs better than pippen in his era who either lit him up or shut him down. Grant hill , Dominique wilkens, glenn rice , Steve smith , clarence weatherspoon , Cedric ceballos , James worthy , chris Mullin , larry Johnson ( before his back went out ) anthony mason ( r.i.p. ) who became an all star & shut pippen down in 94 ecsf where pippen shot 25% in games one & two & averaged 30% shooting the whole series. Rodman on the bad boys also played pippen & was a big reason scottie got his migraine brought on by fear & stress. Dont u think phil Jackson wanted to win game 3 very badly? That's why he put in toni kucok b/c that was a critical playoff game 3. If it went to o.t.

I love the pre-game show, talking about one of Jordan's biggest controversies. This is the foundation of what led him to deciding to retire in 1993, of course his father's murder being the main reason, but the media being complete leaches during this "controversy" was the start of it all, as Magic Johnson confirms in The Last Dance. Also, the pre-game show addressed the Bulls "whining" about the Knicks physical play. You hear only revisionist history today about how tough the Bulls were and how players today would be way to soft to play back then, yet here is proof that players and coaches back then were complaining about the physical play.

Jordan went 3 for 18 FG's in this game, but shot 94% from the free throw line hitting 16 of 17. He was 2 rebounds away from a triple double scoring 22 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in 38 minutes. The real star of the game was Scottie Pippen who went 10-12 from the field, 8-10 from the line, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists scoring 29 points in only 32 minutes of play. The Bulls press defense really gave the Knicks trouble they ended up turning the ball over 20 times during this game.

Watching these games from this era just reinforces to me how it’s crazy for anyone to put LeBron ahead Michael. The NBA from the mid 80s to the mid 90s was unquestionably superior to the product of the last 20 years.

They listed BJ Armstrong at 6-2. John starks at 6-5 but he was really only 6-3. He played with a lot of heart. I hated him, but got to admit he played so hard. MJ started out passing to Paxon in first QTR. John hit those shots which NY was not expecting!

Funny how the small highlight reel at the end mostly showed Jordan when he really didn't do much this game

Do you guys think, threw all of MJs career, John Starks played some of the best defence on him?

Not even close he would always destroy starks even when he would play great defense Jordan would light him up they should have used a rotation but as good as they were on defense they didn’t really have great perimeter defenders Jordan was gonna ball no matter what honestly

No offense or anything, @Anthony Gaul, but Vince Carter is the best dunker in NBA history.

You could also mention Gary Payton, who played him very well 3 straight games in the finals, but the Pistons played him the best, no doubt.

Oh and "the dunk" -in which I have never seen a dunk on Jordan like Starks did. I am die hard MJ fan. He will never be second best.

This should have been a sign of Mike possibly leaving is what Dean Smith said when interviewed by Ahmad. I remember reading in one of Jordan’s books that he asked for coach Smith to come because this might be it after that season.

I hated the Knicks but I respected their toughness. They were definitely an Eastern Conference powerhouse especially in 1993. They were as every bit as tough and hard-nosed as the Bad boy Pistons

Patrick Ewing arrogantly assumed that they'd win the series because New York had homecourt advantage. After Game 5, he was quoted as saying, "They still gotta come to New York for Game 7." Unfortunately for him, there would be no Game 7.

That was because the Knicks didn't lose a game at MSG since January 1993 against the Hawks, if I remember. I was 17 at the time. They had a 28 game winning streak going into Game 5 and didn't lose to MJ and the Bulls at MSG all season.
