Looking back on this the coolest thing is thinking about how Bryce looked up to see if his mom and dad saw the hit. The first thing I always did when I came up wit a big hit was look to see if my parents saw the hit/there reaction. At the end of the day Bryce is just a kid playing ball like all of us
As a Cubs fan, this one stung much worse than people realize. All of our 2016 magic died right then and there. You could argue that it died in the 2018 wildcard game but to me, this was the moment when it became official. After being swept by Philly, we floundered out the end of the 2019 season, ultimately losing the division to the rival Brewers, and were eliminated from the playoffs entirely for the first time since 2014. Cubs fans will forever be grateful for reversing the curse in 2016 but it was sad in this moment knowing that we weren’t going to build on that championship even further. Bryce’s grand slam ended it.
Ya. My buddy is a die hard Chicagoan, was so happy to win the WS, and heh, heh, we had him with us in the front row to watch this live and stayed to the end and saw it... he was a little crushed. Kind of dampened the night for him, but he had been to the top so can't feel too bad. And he had his fun in Philly, the year before we were on TV and the Kruk, Schmidt got a little fired up when we were in the same seats and I caught KB's hot grounder to save my friend's teeth and then let him keep the ball at his house :).
Wow that must've been insane. I was just in left field for the homer Rhys just got against the braves in game 3 of the NLDS. Absolute madness and now I'm looking up old phillies clips to get hype!
not baseball, but LSU football against alabama last year, when we beat them on that played we caused a sound of 147.8 DBS one time. it was insane, caused an earthquake!
This is the moment it all started to click together for Bryce in Philly. He eventually won MVP again, he gained the confidence of feeling like he could lead this team and beat his former teammate KB and the defending WS champ Cubs.... And today, three years later, he goes yard to lift his Phillies over the Padres and into the WS. Incredible. Go beat the Astros!
as a Padres fan that really hurt, but then I started to lear alot more about Bryce Harper and I'm just glad it was Him and the Phillies that ruined our playoff run, hes an insane player and the phillies are beast.
I cry watching this sometimes bc the pure emotion and connection I have to Philadelphia sports. We love these guys so much! Moments like this! Very special. Regardless of if we have won WS recently or not - Bryce Harper is so awesome. The epitome of what can make a Philadelphia athlete so special. They can stand for more than just sports to so many people.
I’m a yankee fan and I get the same exact way with the yankees. I re watch judges homer runs all the times and I actually tested up earlier watching his grand slam against the royals on repeat 🤣. It’s just the passion we have for our teams
"oh my god" is an understatement from John Kruk. Harper personally sent that ball to God himself, same day shipping. Absolutely LAUNCHED the damn thing into orbit. Harper may be a diva, but when he gets good wood on a hanging pitch, he has one of the most VIOLENT lefty swings in the game, almost zero time to even react
it was freaking sweet, just a rip, we saw from straight down 3rd base line by ball girl, how he cut under it and LAUNCHED it (at least that's how I remember it). Place went nuts
@Gale Hess in my 19 years of life that was the loudest I had ever heard CBP live. I was 5 years old when we won the World Series, hadn’t even hit puberty when we went through that awful long rebuild. I spent my summers as a kid watching the Phillies get their shit kicked in by every visiting team imaginable. This moment, this swing, I’ll always thank god that I was at this game. This game made those 16 years before it worth it as a Phillies fan. I look forward to many more years of Bryce and his dramatics lol
@TJ Corcoran Wow. A real fan. Sweet. That is awesome you stayed until the end !#!#!#!#! You earned that moment. It was so loud. Hope the Phils make some runs for you
I had gone to the game the night prior to this and took the train to this game, 2 outs down by 2 we got up to not miss the train, something I never do, I always stay for the whole game. As we walked down from the upper levels I noticed how the game had not ended, the crowd was still seated. As we got to the bottom level we noticed there were now 2 on and Bryce was on deck. Bases became juiced and Bryce got up, I forced my friends to stay. We stood at the top of the left field stands. Watched Bryce get down to his final strike, and absolutely lost our minds when Bryce sent one straight into the right field upper deck, exactly where we had sat the entire game. That’s a memory I’ll never forget and cherish to this day. Thank you Bryce
@Elmo Blatch I couldn't agree more! While it admittedly can be boring sometimes, it's really a beautiful game when moments like this happen! Since both teams have an equal opportunity to score in their at-bats, it's the fairest sport we have. EDIT: P.S. Elmo, you really shouldn't have done what you did to Mrs. Dufresne and that golf pro, shame on you! 😜
Not a huge baseball fan, but I do admire that about the league. It isn’t as political and dramatic as NBA or NFL. If your not a huge fan like me, it can be a rather boring sport but it’s pretty relaxing, and you can put it on the tv all day and just come back to the game here and there :)
Man, I was playing in a little league game and I hit a home run inside of the park, the other team was just throwing it like Tee ball. My entire team crowded around me like that. The good times.
While we fell short last year and the future seems a bit uncertain, this moment told me that things were finally on the upswing in Philly. I’m hoping he gets that ring
Atlanta GMs are to prideful to ever pay a player like Harper… They enjoy the “Money Ball” version of the game to much. Win with the cheapest guys possible. But hey, it worked last year…
Not a Phillies fan but my god was that impressive. Base coaching calling time to ice the closer plus Bryce fighting off those difficult pitches. All around impressive
This guy could easily just sit back on his ability to get on base and hit some dingers, and his hundreds of millions of dollars, but he plays like a grinder with the insatiable will to win. Great player
@Jacrispy pepople who agree with you have probably never been west of the Mississippi river. i personally would rather be on fire than in Philadelphia.
I love it. That's my favorite part, even though I love McCarthy channeling Harry the K with his "Outta here!" Kruk's reaction is priceless. A former ballplayer, he knew right from the contact that it was a tremendous hit.
Those Phillies 80s road jerseys are super sweet, especially how that maroon pops with the powder blue. I wish my Braves would consider wearing their 80s road uniforms every once in while in the future, but admittedly theirs wouldn't look as good as the Phils'.
And then he sent you guys to the world series. That boy is clutch as hell! 2 run HR to end it baby! But the world series is gonna be a replay of anyone in the late 90's VS NYY.... They got beat once in a while, but had overwhelming advantage the rest.....Houston Astros are the new NYY. That team is scary and it has no weakness. Too bad they are up against the Astros. Astros are the only 100+ win team that acts like it in October. Way to many guys on that team with deep playoff XP. I just don't see them beating Verlander twice. They might get Valdez and Verlander once , but they ain't gonna beat those 2 guys 4 times.... It would have to be the worst week of baseball Houston played all year for them to lose this series.
@moneyball32 Fuk the hell yeah! I'm rooting so hard for the Phillies to pull this on off. I picked Houston in 7 games because I knew that they were superior, and that the Phillies know how to fight like hell. You watch that entire game? It was a heavy weight slugfest... That thing went into extras, and I don't think it will be the last game to do so in this series. Those 2 look pretty evenly matched to me,. This does continue the trope though, JV is useless in the world series. Verlander's job seems to be GETTING you there, but not anything past that.
If Bryce Harper stays another 2 years in philadelphia, his Hall of Fame plaque is going to be a Philadelphia Phillies cap. Not even close. He's going to get a second straight MVP if he keeps this season up. He's already got ops of a thousand, and he's hitting massive home runs this year.
Man this was so fun awesome!!!! Little did we know couple years later and some changes down the road and adding schwarber to the team we would be 1 win away from going to a world series!!! Let's go. Last night game made me go through a bunch of phillies highlights.rrom the 08 season and on. It's been hours of me watching these!! Love this city and our teams!!!30 minutes left til game 5 NLCS! LETSS GOOOOOO BOYS TIME TO GET A DESERVING SERIES WIN TONIGHT!!!! BRYCE YOU ARE THE MAN AND THAN SOME!!!!!
Not a huge baseball fan, and that's saying something since I grew up with the Big Red Machine living in Cincinnati, OH. but this was awesome to watch. Harper is a monster with the boom stick.
Kruk’s call is the best thing too. I was at the game, it kinda sucked up until that last inning. We even walked to the concourse from our seats so we could beat traffic when it ended. Then it got exciting so we stood at the standing area. The stadium got so loud. I couldn’t talk for two days after that.
"Way up there and waaayyy outta here!!" will probably go down as one of the great calls in Philly sports. Up there with Harry the K's "Michael. Jack. Schmidt." and "Swing and a miss, struck him out!!"
I was watching this live in a Chicago bar - and I’m from Philly lol- as soon as he hit it people were like wtf!!!??? Me- I was jumping up and down!!! Then realized where I was
@9C_THE_DON This is coming from the dude that’s watching a full length Phillies walk off grand slam video that isn’t a Phillies fan. YOU sir, are NOT that guy.
I’ve watched this video at least 15 times and idc I will watch it at least another 25 times over the next decade. The fact that Bryce is a Philly just makes my soul happy.
@robb wilkinson Nat's tried to use the deferred offer trick, which greatly reduced the overall value of the contract. I do not blame him for leaving, especially since the local media and fans had turned on him.
Not a Phillies fan, but he launched that ball into orbit and I think he circled the bases before it landed....and baseball needs to bring back the old school blue uniforms, those Phillies road blue uniforms still look great, as do all the other teams that wore the road blue uniforms.
At 4:23, you see a shot of Kyle Schwarber (then a Cub) walking thru the dugout. Little did he know 3 years later he'd be a Phillie playing in the World Series
Coming back to this from 2+ years ago. Watching this live....holy crap! I had to rewind my DVR to hear the call - John Kruk's "OH MY GOD" is an absolute classic reaction.
